Yoga leggings fabric needs separate evidence for stretch recovery, coverage under stretch, surface durability, colourfastness and wash stability. A "four-way stretch" description does not establish all of these properties. Choose the tests around the intended fit, colours and care instructions, then agree the conditions and acceptance criteria with the supplier and laboratory.

Which wearing problems should the tests address?
Use this table to discuss priorities, not as a mandatory package for every pair of leggings.

Does a high stretch result mean good recovery?
Not by itself. Ask which direction was tested, what load or extension condition was used, when recovery was assessed and whether the sample had been washed. Compare candidates under equivalent conditions.
ISO 20932-1:2018, with Amendment 1:2021, addresses fabric elasticity and related properties using straight or looped strip specimens. The elastane percentage on a specification sheet cannot replace that evidence.
Check the scope too: this method excludes narrow fabrics. If the waistband uses a separate narrow elastic, agree an appropriate method for it. A body-fabric report does not automatically cover the waistband.
Was opacity checked before or during stretching?
An unstretched sample that hides its background does not establish coverage during a squat. Before turning an opacity result into a "squat-proof" claim, check the method, sample state and evaluation criteria.
Hohenstein's 2020 factsheet on opaqueness and opacity distinguishes two assessments. Its opaqueness method allows conditions such as stretching, wetting or washing to be agreed for the intended use. That does not mean every opacity report includes stretched testing. Confirm current procedures with the laboratory before commissioning work.
For development comparisons, agree the garment size and fit, stretch location, background or underwear, lighting, moisture state and wash history. Photographs taken under the same conditions can help buyers and suppliers discuss differences. This is a suggested comparison framework, not a standard test procedure or a substitute for required laboratory assessment.
What do pilling, abrasion and bursting results add?
ISO 12945-2:2020 addresses pilling and related surface changes. ISO 12947-2:2016 assesses abrasion through specimen breakdown. Inner-leg fabric can develop an unacceptable appearance before it wears through. Our pilling, abrasion and rubbing guide explains why the results cannot be combined into one durability score.
Where resistance to bursting is relevant, discuss ISO 13938-2:2019, which measures pneumatic bursting strength and distension. It does not validate seams, recovery or coverage under stretch. Agree garment and seam checks separately.
For colour transfer, ISO 105-X12:2016 covers dry and wet rubbing. ISO 105-E04:2013 addresses perspiration colourfastness. Wet rubbing is not a perspiration test.

How can buyers manage the testing budget?
One option is to screen candidate fabrics for stretch behaviour, coverage and wash response in the intended fit, then commission the agreed laboratory tests for the selected sample. Development screening is not final acceptance.
Discuss colour coverage explicitly. A report for one black shade should not automatically cover pale colours, prints or contrast panels. Agree any representative-colour approach and the differences that would trigger additional testing.
Before bulk production, settle sampling, batch coverage, retesting triggers and who pays for a repeat test. These are proposed planning steps, not a fixed FJORATEX procedure or minimum package. Customer-mandated tests and applicable product-safety requirements remain separate obligations.

Share the intended fit, reference sample, colour range, care target and the wearing problems you most want to avoid. Those details make "stretchy, durable and opaque" a more testable brief.
